UTSC Cheerleading Team has our annual tryouts on September 14th and 16th, 2018 at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Center (TPASC)! We had over 100+ students signed up, and a lot of them are highly talented - we cannot wait to work with the new members and build the team stronger!

Each year, tryouts are being held twice usually around the third week of September. While for this year, they were on the 14th and 16th of September, at TPASC Studio 2/3.

Tryouts are being run very much like our regular practice by the Captains, allowing the attendees to get a taste of our practices. Prospective members are asked to jump, dance, tumble and go through a small flexibility assessment; athletes are being told up-front criteria we are looking for. Stunting is not being included for safety reasons since the team usually stunt at our offsite cheer facility due to the limitations on the head space in the studio.

We do not require any experience or any skills level of any kind. Everyone will be placed on a team, whether its performance or preparatory.

You will never know your limits unless you push yourself to them.

The Captains and Choreographers carefully evaluate athletes' skills before making their decisions. Tryouts are also filmed for future reference purposes and headshots were taken this year for the ease of recalling of athletes during the evaluation process.

After tryouts the Captains go through a deliberation process, which places athletes on different teams based on their skills. We take into consideration all areas of the score sheet - tumbling, ability to pick up choreography, performance skills, and most importantly, mental fortitude. Our goal is to place athletes on a team where they will be most successful because we want everyone to do the best they can.
